Suitcase to be renamed “Saturn”

Tomorrow I’ll be enjoying 2 weeks holiday in Rota, Andalusien (Spain).

It is pack the suitcase time today and before me on the table lies no less than 9 chargers for a variety of electronic gadgets. Laptop, Mobile phones, two cameras, one video camera, mp3 players… As you can tell I like my gadgets. I always have. I’m the idiot who buys a fresh on the market brand new gadget and then 2 months later the next highly improved model is in the shops for half as much as I paid and I end up with a sick feeling in my stomach. I suppose though there is never a good time to buy a electrical gadget. Electrical goods manufacturers are very clever. They have product roll outs planned often over a year in advance, perfectly timed to maximise the spending power of mugs like me who say “YES! , there is a new model/gadget out, gotta buy that!”  :-)

My love for new gadgets isn’t because I’m material or superficial. It mainly comes from my love of new technologies and I am easily led with the hype. My Dad is the same. Guess who rushed out and bought the fantastic new video recorder Betamax for a kings ransom in the 80s? Yep, my Dad. I thought at the time it wasn’t the best of decisions considering the video rental shops only had only about 4 films in Betamax and aisles full of VHS films.

Anyway, I’m now calling my suitcase Saturn (named after the big German electrical store which I love to spend time in searching for new gadgets).

If you are holidaying yourself, have a good one, and I’ll post with the meaty bits when I get back in two weeks.

Guess who bought “Video 2000″ back then? It’s still downstairs waiting for a museum to call (3 cassettes going along with it).
